Special Days at the Museum

Maine State Museum Joins Smithsonian Magazine's 12th Annual Museum Day Live!

Free admission on September 24, 2016 with a Downloadable Museum Day Live! Ticket

The Maine State Museum in Augusta will open its doors free of charge on Saturday, September 24, 2016 as part of Smithsonian magazine's twelfth annual Museum Day Live! In order to be admitted for free on September 24, participants need only visit www.Smithsonian.com/museumday to download a free ticket for two people. One ticket per household is permitted. Participants must then present the ticket at the Maine State Museum, which is open from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Museum Day.

"Our visitors often think of the Maine State Museum as a kind of mini-Smithsonian," comments Museum Director Bernard Fishman. "This is a compliment to both institutions and makes our participation in Museum Day a good fit for the Maine State Museum. Both museums use objects from nature and culture to enhance understanding and knowledge, and convey the incredible richness and diversity of the many kinds of worlds that surround us."

Inclusive by design, the event represents the Smithsonian's commitment to make learning and the spread of knowledge accessible to everyone. The event also gives museums across all 50 states the opportunity to offer free admission to all. Last year's event drew over 200,000 participants nationally and this year's event promises to attract more museum-goers than ever before.

The Museum Day Live! ticket is now available to download at www.Smithsonian.com/museumday. For more information about Museum Day Live! and a list of participating museums and cultural institutions, please visit www.Smithsonian.com/museumday.
