After only one day of public view, the museum’s newest exhibition “Regional Struggle – National Story: Maine’s Path to Statehood” had to close, along with the entire museum, as a precaution against the spread of the coronavirus. We are looking forward to re-opening the museum and this wonderful exhibition as soon as possible. But, in the meantime, take a virtual look at a few of the exhibition’s high points and meet the curator, Angela Goebel-Bain, who will share insights and stories about what you will find in “Regional Struggle – National Story: Maine’s Path to Statehood.”

The oldest known ballot box used in Maine, this wooden box is just one of the many unique artifacts featured in the exhibition. Dating from 1796-1818, the box held votes cast by Northport voters on the question of whether or not Maine should separate from Massachusetts.
