Maine Quilts: 250 Years of Comfort and Community
Exhibit
Opening in 2026
Maine State Museum

A Story of Community
With a particular emphasis on the women and community groups who fashioned these quilts and left a remarkable artistic and cultural legacy, the exhibit features items from the museum’s collection that have never been on display before.
Beyond Bedcovers
Ranging from surviving colonial-era bedcovers to 19th-century garments and ‘crazy quilts’ to modern-day creations, Maine Quilts enlightens, entertains, and introduces visitors to a whole new world of Maine artisans.

Bringing New Voices to Maine History
Maine Quilts: 250 Years of Comfort and Community is a comprehensive examination of one of the state’s most remarkable contributions to American decorative arts.
