Create a Legacy that Expresses Your Commitment to Preserving Maine’s Heritage

The language below provides charitable bequest language donors, your financial advisors, or estate planner may use to include the Maine State Museum in their will or estate plan through a bequest.

We offer language for each type of bequest below so you can decide which is best for your particular priorities.

Specific Bequest Language

This type of bequest leaves a fixed dollar amount or specific asset to the nonprofit.

“I give, devise, and bequeath the sum of $________ to The Friends of the Maine State Museum, a nonprofit corporation located at 83 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04330, Federal Tax ID #22-3181040 for its general charitable purposes.”

Percentage Bequest Language

This provision directs a stated percentage of the donor’s total estate to the organization.

“I give, devise, and bequeath ______% of my estate to The Friends of the Maine State Museum, a nonprofit corporation located at 83 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04330, Federal Tax ID #22-3181040 for its general charitable purposes.”

Residuary Bequest Language

A residuary bequest distributes a portion of what remains in the estate after specific gifts, debts, taxes, and expenses have been satisfied.

“I give, devise, and bequeath ______% of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate to The Friends of the Maine State Museum, a nonprofit corporation located at 83 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04330, Federal Tax ID #22-3181040 for its general charitable purposes.”

Contingent Bequest Language

This provision takes effect only if a named beneficiary does not survive the donor or another condition is met.
