Planning your Field Trip
Learn more about how to schedule and what is being offered when we first re-open!
When the museum first reopens the 3rd and 4th floors will be available for touring. This will include the Education Center with displays on Defence and the Revolutionary War, the Bryant Pond Switchboard, White Pine, and Birds. Other exhibits open in 2026 include Beyond the Postcard, Vector: A Whales Life in the Gulf of Maine, At Home in Maine, and Maine Quilts.
The remaining lower floors including Made in Maine and 12,000 Years in Maine will reopen at the end of 2027 and 2028.
The Museum has new hours!
Opening date: 10/24/2026
Tuesday-Sunday 10:00am – 4:00pm Closed on Mondays
In-person programs will not be available right away. From October 2026-March 2027 museum visits will be scheduled for self-guided tour time only.
The museum is FREE to schools and homeschools.
You can combine your museum visit to the State House or Blaine House.
Field trips beginning October 24th: Self-guided tours only
- Schedule for a self-guided tour at the Museum
- The following form can be used for self-guided visits as well as visits to the State House or Blaine House.
- October and November are almost full, consider visiting December-January to get the most out of your trip.
In person programming begins the week of March 22, 2027
- In person programming for schools and groups begins the week of 3/22.
- Programs will be somewhat limited due to a shortage of available space in the exhibits as well as a lower staff number.
- The following form can be used for both guided and self-guided visits as well as visits to the State House or Blaine House.
We are still offering virtual presentations
- Consider having a virtual program in the comfort of your classroom and following that up with a visit to the museum for a self-guided tour!
- Virtual presentations are free of charge. They are hosted on the Maine State Museum’s Zoom Webinar platform.
- Students will have opportunities to interact with MSM educators through polls, chats, and activities.
